Disadvantages of e-paper

Disadvantages of e-paper

One of disadvantages for electronic paper is that this is much expensive than normal papers. This is a main obstacle. For instance, Sony is selling PRS-505 portable Digital e-reader system for $273. Most of e-paper is over $200 currently and it is not worthwhile for everyone including organizations and customers to buy and use it unless it is on a special purpose. Another disadvantage of e-paper is that it still doesn’t have the same physical qualities of paper that makes paper so versatile. For example, it can’t be completely rolled up or folded so that it cannot be put in pockets as a normal paper. Moreover, it’s not practical to use this for disposable applications. For instance, news papaers are more attractive to commuters than e-paper. Although, e-paper is a new advanced technology with various features, it is not time for organizations in the paper industry to replace normal paper with e-paper to make news papers or magazines unless price of e-paper is as cheap as normal papers. Besides, organizations in manufacturing industry could use it to label for new products. Of course, it looks great to attract customers and could be well designed but once they lose or damage it, it costs a lot to buy and retore.
